Road Safety – Driving Test and Highway Code

Whilst the driving theory test has some optional cycling awareness questions, not everyone is tested with these and the practical driving test does not have any particular focus on cyclists. If drivers are not trained to be aware of cyclists and how to drive around them they will retain the lack of awareness after they pass their test. British Cycling supports the motoring organisations which are calling for harder tests and the inclusion of cycle awareness in the test.

King of the Mountains

Grampian Transport Museum Cyclefest Sportive

Saturday 18 May 2013

Have you started planning your 2013 season? The King of the Mountains Sportive from Alford is in its third year and will take you over some of Scotland’s highest passes with spectacular views. The 100km and 100 miles are not for the faint hearted but the routes will be well signed with food stops along the way.

You are being contacted in the hope that you will distribute the information to other club members, friends and colleagues. Numbers are limited so the sooner entries come in the better. Places can be secured by going here

The event is run in conjunction with Grampian Transport Museum, Alford, offering three distances, 25 miles, 100kms and 100 miles. With beautiful scenery and challenging routes what better way to spend your Saturday?

100 miles

Starting and finishing in Alford, in the foothills of the Cairngorms, the 100 mile route will take riders over the Suie, Cabrach, Lecht and Gairnsheil before returning via Queen’s View and Cushnie

100 kms

The 100 km route also starts and finishes in Alford with riders experiencing the second half of the 100 mile route

25 miles

The 25 mile event misses out the highest roads but is equally scenic and also starts and finishes in Alford.

Billed as one of the toughest sportives (100 mile distance) in the country it is worth doing if only for the breath-taking views

COG Christmas Capers

Great turn out yesterday I think the total was 11 – impressive. We all enjoyed a good ride and muddy splattering.

Can’t forget our special rider of the day – SANTA (aka Ben) with his pimped out rider with chirstmas lights and music, brilliant!

Well done to All!
