Velodrome – Dundee Caird Park

We have an offer of using the Caird Park velodrome this Thursday evening – 19th at 18:00. They plan to open it to newcomers and seniors for the next couple of weeks.

Should be awesome fun, especially if there’s a good group of us. Will be weather dependent of course – riding on smooth Tarmac in tight formation in the rain isn’t too clever…..

PLEASE EMAIL BEN IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME ALONG!

Will need to bring a road bike, although may use track bikes there depending on numbers. Track bikes have look Keo pedals.
There will still be a club ride starting at the hotel at usual 18:30 and I’ll start a discussion forum on the club website too.

Hope we can finally make it there this time!

Craggy Island Triathlon

craggy-eventTriathlon on the Isle of Kerrera
Isle of Kerrera (Near Oban, Scotland)

Three events over two days in brilliant scenery on the unspoilt Isle of Kerrera, just off the West coast of Scotland near the harbour of Oban.

550m Swim, 28km Cycle MTB, 8km Hill Run
DAY 2

Paul and Heidi competed on Day 1 and came in a rather impressive 15th overall for Paul on the longer event and Heidi finished 12th place in the ladies category for the slightly shorter event.

Day 2 saw our man Ali placing 9th out of the Male Vets category very well done considering it was his first ever Triathlon!

St Andrews Sportive

Very well done to those who took part in the St. Andrew’s Sportive cycle at the weekend. Olly, Steph and Pete all crossed the line in great times. Pete should be commended for his double Sportive weekend for 3rd place on Saturday at the Highland Perthshire Challenege and then completing the St. Andrews Sportive on the Sunday in 10th place.

It was rather difficult to work out the true times as not everyone should which ride they took part in as there were 3 distances. But I believe Pete came 10th Olly 11th and Steph 12th – super impressive for the 65 mile loop!

Results and photographs can be found on the St Andrews Sportive website.

St. Andrews Sportive

Anyone heading to St. Andrews but not for a game of golf?

This Sunday St. Andrews will host the St. Andrews Sportive cycle event now in its 2nd year and bigger than last year, with over 400 riders this year. There are a choice of 3 routes 48 miles, 66 miles and 88 miles with 4427 feet of climbing. Looks like they will be very nice routes through fife with some interesting climbs.

We would like to wish our Carse of Gowrie entrants the best of luck.

Ride London 2013

chris-kennedy-cog-veloPrudential Ride London – Surrey 100 in central London was the biggest cycling sportive ever held in the UK with 17,500 riders. Race was started at 6.00 am by Boris Johnson Mayor of London at Olympic Park and was well organised to handle the huge volume of cyclists. Boris also took part himself and finished just over 8 hours. Weather was ideal riding conditions, it wasn’t too hot, absolutely perfect. The route was mostly flat and fast with a couple of little hills, Box Hill and Leith Hill much easier than the Carse of Gowrie climbs we are used to 🙂

I was placed 181/17,500 with a time of 4hours 18mins. I even took a stint at the front coming into HUB 1 (25miles) – that was awesome! Although it was for a short distance, still its not everyday you get to pull along 17,500 cyclists!

My ride is on Strava

Anyone interested in registering for next years ballot it opens.

It was a fantastic experience and I would thoroughly recommend it. Maybe a Team COG entry next year…?

COG Ride 25th April

Another big turn out last night a total of 10 bodies. Well it was a bit of a disaster with a total of 5 punctures – Poor Steph had 2! The ever present wind was also their to annoy us and while we waited on punctures to be fixed the temperature decided to fall – not nice brrr! At least we all made it back home safely. Couple of big climbs Glendoick & Kilspindie and some fast decending.

Well done Ali and Ken for flying the flag of Carse of Gowrie Velo (COG). Weather was not very pleasant for you guys with strong wind, rain and I believe some roads were flooded also. Major kudos to you both for completing the ride in these terrible conditions around Peebles.
