Fred Whitton

Some of you mad Coggers are taking on the Fred Whitton Challenge, arguably one of the toughest sportives – Nutters!

A sportive like no other: 112 miles with 4000 metres of climbing!

Riders list for 2014

There is still time if anyone would like to contribute to our club fundraising page. Thank you.

More information about the Fred Whitton Challenge

Good luck and hope you all come back safely. Also keep a watch on strava for when Russell and Pedro make a break for the KOM (30% incline).

I am praying for better weather than what the Met Office is predicting.

St Andrews Sportive

Very well done to those who took part in the St. Andrew’s Sportive cycle at the weekend. Olly, Steph and Pete all crossed the line in great times. Pete should be commended for his double Sportive weekend for 3rd place on Saturday at the Highland Perthshire Challenege and then completing the St. Andrews Sportive on the Sunday in 10th place.

It was rather difficult to work out the true times as not everyone should which ride they took part in as there were 3 distances. But I believe Pete came 10th Olly 11th and Steph 12th – super impressive for the 65 mile loop!

Results and photographs can be found on the St Andrews Sportive website.

Highland Perthshire Results

photo1Outstanding effort from all who took part in the Highland Perthshire challenge.

Two 1st’s this weekend for COG Velo!

Ben 1st for the men and Kirsty 1st for the ladies!

COG Velo top the table with Chris (2nd) and Pete (3rd) taking the top 3 places in the 50 mile route and also finishing in an impressive time was Alasdair (26th).

The 100 mile COG guys had a rather frustrating time of it with Nick sustaining 4 punctures and a broken front derailleur 🙁 Even with all their troubles they still managed to finish in the top 20 with Pedro taking 6th, Jamie 7th and Nick finishing 17th overall.

Hope the road markings on the Collace climb spurred you guys on 😉

Highland Perthshire Challenge

Good luck to all who are taking part in the Highland Perthshire Challenge on Saturday. Most are riding the shorter route 50 miles however some are tackling the 100 miles – tough nuts! As it is a very local Sportive close to Carse of Gowrie, finishing at Perth Airport the plan is to ride back to Glencarse Highland Games for beers. Find out more from their facebook page.

Anyone wishing to take part or for route information visit: Highland Perthshire Challenge website.

Highland Perthshire Challenge & Beer

As its now August many of you will be looking ahead at other Sportives and our local Highland Perthshire Challenge is taking place on Saturday 24th August 2013. There is a choice of 50 miles or 100 miles, great scenery through perthshire, and its right on our doorstep.

A few Cog folk have already signed up and it would be good to have a big turn out from Carse of Gowrie Velo. And the plan after the event is to go to Rait beer festival (not sure if its on?) or Glencarse Highland Games which is on the same day.

It may be out for some if you are riding Skye Sportive on the same day or the St. Andrews Sportive on the Sunday 25th August.

Find out more from Highland Perthshire Challenge website.

Discuss further in the forum.

Hope to see you there.

Cairn O’ Mount Challenge 1st June

Cairn o’ mount challenge will be the next Sportive on the Calendar locally. A choice of 2 routes 30 miles or 80 miles.

The shorter route is on the gentle minor roads of rural Angus with just one significant climb which is over the famous Cathertuns road and into Glen Lethnot. With a refreshment stop at the half way point, this is an ideal starter event for beginners or younger riders.

The 80 mile route leaves from Edzell Muir and make your way to Fettercairn then up the big climb up the steep side of the Cairn o’Mount. Along the slug road to Stonehaven to Inverbervie and Johnshaven using minor roads and cycle path before cutting west towards Brechin and taking in the Catheruns road before returning to Edzell.
