Cairn O’ Mount Challenge 1st June

Cairn o’ mount challenge will be the next Sportive on the Calendar locally. A choice of 2 routes 30 miles or 80 miles.

The shorter route is on the gentle minor roads of rural Angus with just one significant climb which is over the famous Cathertuns road and into Glen Lethnot. With a refreshment stop at the half way point, this is an ideal starter event for beginners or younger riders.

The 80 mile route leaves from Edzell Muir and make your way to Fettercairn then up the big climb up the steep side of the Cairn o’Mount. Along the slug road to Stonehaven to Inverbervie and Johnshaven using minor roads and cycle path before cutting west towards Brechin and taking in the Catheruns road before returning to Edzell.

Bealach Beag Sportive 25th May

Bealach Beag – Saturday 25th May 2013

BealachnaBà is a historic pass through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula, in Wester Ross in the Scottish Highlands. The Bealach is the UK’s biggest road climb at 2053ft (626m) from sea level in just 6mls (10k). It is set in a fabulous unspoilt landscape with outstanding views of the sea and the hills. The Applecross Peninsula is renowned as a gem in Scotland’s crown of natural wonders. The idea of a sportive ride up the Bealach belongs to local cycling legend Clifford Davidson.
Over the years the event has proved extremely popular and, because of road restrictions, there are limited places. They have decided to have two events at different times of the year; The Bealach Beag has been introduced over the shorter distance of 43 miles, whilst The Bealach Mor, held in September, retains the original route of 90 miles.

For more information go to hands on events website.

Good luck to all who are taking part tomorrow!
