COG Ride 13th Sept

2 damaged bikes and 1 damaged person (Pedro – speedy recovery mate)!

Very eventful COG ride last night. Russell front wheel damaged when his battery pack fell on it – hopefully not to bad.

Pedro came a croper in the dark while heading back home. He wiped out at some road works just after Inchture junction! Hit a 3 inch drop in the tarmac and next thing the bike is side ways and he is sliding along the ground at 20mph+. Result is some road rash, holy bibs and a bent rear derailleur hanger. Punctured front tyre and torn bar tape.

Other than all of that it was a good ride in the wet and dark.

COG Ride 5th September

Good loop last night and turned out to be a cracking ride and hopefully everyone got home before the darkness. Seemed like a bit of confusion coming down Knapp the group split in half. Again a big turn out of 10 riders with 1 new face, hope to see you all out again.

COG Ride 29th August

Reverse of our usual loop up 2 hills and back from Glencarse through Errol and to finish at Inchture. First hill was Rait and long and punishing climb followed by Kilspindie which is always fun – in a painful way 😉 The wind was never to far away last night, top effort from all and Pete looking good on the hills.

Highland Perthshire Results

photo1Outstanding effort from all who took part in the Highland Perthshire challenge.

Two 1st’s this weekend for COG Velo!

Ben 1st for the men and Kirsty 1st for the ladies!

COG Velo top the table with Chris (2nd) and Pete (3rd) taking the top 3 places in the 50 mile route and also finishing in an impressive time was Alasdair (26th).

The 100 mile COG guys had a rather frustrating time of it with Nick sustaining 4 punctures and a broken front derailleur 🙁 Even with all their troubles they still managed to finish in the top 20 with Pedro taking 6th, Jamie 7th and Nick finishing 17th overall.

Hope the road markings on the Collace climb spurred you guys on 😉

St. Andrews Sportive

Anyone heading to St. Andrews but not for a game of golf?

This Sunday St. Andrews will host the St. Andrews Sportive cycle event now in its 2nd year and bigger than last year, with over 400 riders this year. There are a choice of 3 routes 48 miles, 66 miles and 88 miles with 4427 feet of climbing. Looks like they will be very nice routes through fife with some interesting climbs.

For more information visit St. Andrews Sportive website

We would like to wish our Carse of Gowrie entrants the best of luck.

Highland Perthshire Challenge

Good luck to all who are taking part in the Highland Perthshire Challenge on Saturday. Most are riding the shorter route 50 miles however some are tackling the 100 miles – tough nuts! As it is a very local Sportive close to Carse of Gowrie, finishing at Perth Airport the plan is to ride back to Glencarse Highland Games for beers. Find out more from their facebook page.

Anyone wishing to take part or for route information visit: Highland Perthshire Challenge website.
Ride hard and have fun!

COG Ride 15th August

Stop at Little Glenshee

As planned we cycled up to Little Glenshee which ordinarly would have been a very pleasant and scenic cycle however as we arrived at Perth the weather took a turn for the worst and it rained on and off for the remainder of our ride. The climb into little Glenshee itself was enjoyable not to steep and much longer than some expected. We should definately visit again sometime perhaps part of a longer ride and hopefully when the weather is much better i.e. no rain!

Good turn out with 10 riders including a new member Ali who came with us until Perth. Nice meeting you and hope to see you out again with us.

‘Superb navigational skills from Pete 🙂 ‘
