Kirsty – Cairngorm Bike Festival MTB

Well done goes to Kirsty for last weekend’s great effort in the Cairngorm Bike Festival mountain bike race finishing an impressive 3rd overall in the ladies category. Russell also took part however, he struggled to stay on his bike and lost some time when he fell off.

Another different route this week, we sure are mixing it up!

Everybody seemed to enjoy the route which turned out to be slightly longer than usual and covering 650m elevation! Nice sprinting up Glendoick from everyone Nick and Chris just making it to the top first – nice work chaps. Strong effort out of Newtyle guys even with the slight head wind.

Ride London 2013

chris-kennedy-cog-veloPrudential Ride London – Surrey 100 in central London was the biggest cycling sportive ever held in the UK with 17,500 riders. Race was started at 6.00 am by Boris Johnson Mayor ofΒ London at Olympic Park and was well organised to handle the huge volume of cyclists. Boris also took part himself and finished just over 8 hours. Weather was ideal riding conditions, it wasn’t too hot, absolutely perfect. The route was mostly flat and fast with a couple of little hills, Box Hill and Leith Hill much easier than the Carse of Gowrie climbs we are used to πŸ™‚

I was placed 181/17,500 with a time of 4hours 18mins. I even took a stint at the front coming into HUB 1 (25miles) – that was awesome! Although it was for a short distance, still its not everyday you get to pull along 17,500 cyclists!

My ride is on Strava

Anyone interested in registering for next years ballot it opens.

It was a fantastic experience and I would thoroughly recommend it. Maybe a Team COG entry next year…?

COG Ride 1st Aug

The plan was to have a quick loop around Meikleour and back, however the route ended being slightly longer than planned ( Jay!). It was good to ride on less familar roads for a change and the pace was fast. Weather was perfect for riding not to hot and slight wind. Good effort from all six riders sharing the pain on the front.

Kids and adults had a brilliant time. Games for the kids were awesome – hope you find your bean bag from the field when Callum over shot the garden hedge πŸ˜‰
COG max power challenge was a huge hit with all – not quite sure who won the overall categories?

Until the next one!

COG Ride 25th July

cog-fog-photographDifferent route from our usual thursday night COG ride – which everyone enjoyed. The fog closed in on the higher ground making our descent a little scary, but no accidents which is always good. Head count was 12 riders which is great. The kudos must go to Nick P for is attack on Glen Carse climb, even Pedro was getting a bit twitchy thinking he might lose his KOM πŸ˜‰

COG Ride 18th July

Lots of climbing last night and great weather. Big turn out again with 10 riders out enjoying the sun. Although 2 (Brian & david) turning back after the first climb up Knapp. Brian hit with 2 punctures – very unfortunate buddy.

It was a longer run being the 3rd Thursday of the month, turned out we covered 60km with a total ascent of 900m. All would agree it was a tough climb up Craigowl. Awesome preformance from Pete who flew up even with soar legs.
